This workshop, hosted by the Maryland CASA Association, will provide an overview of what trauma is and its long-lasting and sometimes hidden adverse effects on the mental health of children and families. Attendees will learn how to identify trauma symptoms and gain an understanding of trauma-informed practices to help those who have experienced trauma.
Leading the workshop is Joan Gillece, Ph.D., Director of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for Trauma Informed Care, and Director of the National Association of State Mental Health Programs Directors’ Center for Innovation in Trauma-Informed Approaches.
Volunteers who attend should notify CASA staff in order to receive credit for in-service training.
